A GREAT Sankey youngster is celebrating after being named as a finalist in the prestigious Learning and Skills Council North West Learner Awards.
Joanne Gardner, aged 20, of Cleveleys Road, is one of three finalists in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category, which is sponsored by Cheshire Skills and Employer Development. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton, at which Falklands hero Simon Weston will be guest of honour.
Joanne is carrying out an advanced apprenticeship in customer services with Warrington Borough Council.
She beat applications from youngsters across the county to get to the final and be given the chance to win a £250 prize.
The winners will go on to the north west regional round before being entered into the LSC's National Apprenticeship Awards, where they could be in with a chance of being named national winner and receive a prize of up to £1,500.
The awards are held to recognise and reward excellence in learning, skills and achievement in individuals and organisations.
