AN inspirational teen will be representing Warrington at a prestigious royal awards ceremony after turning her life around following a turbulent childhood.

Emily Hill, of Alder Lane, Orford, is one of just three people from across the UK to be chosen as a finalist for an award at The Prince's Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success Awards.

The Oscar-style ceremony, hosted by Ant and Dec, recognises the achievements of young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their chances in life and had a positive impact on their local community.

Emily, aged 19, is up for the young ambassador of the year award, which recognises young people who have successfully completed a Prince’s Trust course and volunteered their time, shared their personal experiences and inspired others.

Growing up, Emily experienced a strained relationship with her mother, and made the decision to move in with her grandparents at a young age.

When she was 10, her mother became permanently disabled and Emily took responsibility for caring for her.

Emily’s turbulent childhood had a profound effect on her and she became disruptive at school and was at risk of exclusion when she was referred to The Prince’s Trust xl programme, an in-school club that helps young people who are struggling with education.

She added: "I had learning difficulties, I was depressed, I was shy, I had no confidence. I was very angry as well – I got frustrated about my situation.”

"The Trust helped me loads to turn my life around and I wanted to be a young ambassador as a way to give back.”

Emily has since been described as an 'inspiration to all who meet her' and helped pupils currently on the xl programme.

Last year she was nominated for a Pride of Britain award and in the future she would like a career in youth work or social work.
