PENSIONERS can hang out in style after a council cash boost saw a new community room open at Ryfields Retirement Village.

Warrington Borough Council allocated funding fromits community asset fund to finance the new facility.

Residents had campaigned for the village, on Arena Gardens, Orford, to be improved.

Mervyn Woodage, Ryfields Resident's Association secretary said, “Here at Ryfield’s we have a range of facilities including an IT centre, a woodwork shop and a greenhouse so a community suite will be a great addition and we couldn’t wait to officially open it.

"With funding from the council and all our hard work, we have finally reached our goal.

"What started off as a dream is now a reality.”

The suite was opened by Mayor Clr Ted Finnegan.

It will host smaller social functions for residents, and any meetings that are needed.

Any money made from use of the suite will ploughed back into in-house events, and community projects, according to the council.

Ryfields Residents Association will oversee the project and have been given specific job roles such as marketing, bookings and housekeeping.

Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture said: “Our community asset fund is a great opportunity for groups to benefit from. Ryfields Village is an example of how the funding can be used for improvements in a local community. Well done to all those involved in the project.”
