She is so touched by
tot’s story she raises £750
for Alder Hey Hospital
where he is being treated

A KIND-HEARTED woman has shaved her head to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Callands Care Home resident Kath O’Toole organised the sponsored shave after she was touched by the story of tot Eddie Lea.

The five-month-old from St Helens was born with craniosynostosis – a rare condition of the skull that causes a baby to be born with, or develop in later life, an abnormally shaped head.

The condition can cause problems as he grows up including persistent headaches, learning difficulties and eye problems.

Kath said: “I understand how difficult it is to live with a disability so I wanted to do something to help Eddie.

“He needs to have treatment to help him and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital will help support him during this time.”

The 45-year-old, who has been a resident at the care home on Callands Road for five years, raised more than £750 for the hospital, where Eddie is scheduled to undergo an operation when he reaches the age of one.

Most children with craniosynostosis recover well after surgery and the appearance of their skull improves significantly.

Kath added: “I heard about Eddie as he is the grandson of the kitchen manager at the care home. I’m really happy I did it.”
