Pupils bid for number one with self penned track released on iTunes

YOUNGSTERS at Westbrook Old Hall Primary School have swapped the classroom for the concert hall to help raise money to buy musical instruments for the school.

Pupils have their hearts set on topping the charts after releasing a song on iTunes, What’s on the Menu Mr Fox?

The song was composed by the school’s leading music practitioner John Oates, who guided the children through the process.

The children produced the track on iPads after taking part in songwriting classes.

Mr Oates said: “Active enjoyment in music improves learning skills and fosters team work. It also stimulates creativity and self expression.”

The song was debuted at a school assembly and head teacher Stewart Quinn believes the youngsters have what it takes to turn it into a hit while making people smile in the process.

He added: “The songwriting has captured the children's imagination and really engaged them in their learning.

“It is also the highlight of my day when the children come to my office and start singing. It just puts a smile on everyone’s faces.”

The song is priced at 79p with all profits donated to the school to invest in music lessons.

All pupils are being encouraged to put pen to paper to write their own songs with plans to sell the tracks on iTunes later this year.
