DALLAM's post office could be set to move to a new home in a branch that will open seven days a week.

The Harrison Square branch will shut and move to a unit around 20 metres away on Longshaw Street under the Post Office's plans.

As part of the plan, the post office's opening times would increase to 83 hours a week.

At present, the branch opens between 9am and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday as well as 8am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

Under the plans, opening times would increase to 8am until 8pm from Monday to Friday while the post office would also open on Sundays between 9am and 8pm.

The new branch, which comes as part of a 'major modernisation programme' by the Post Office, will also offer banking services in a 'modern, open-plan environment'.

A closing date of November has been mooted for the Harrison Square post office.

Regional manager Suzanne Richardson said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new style of post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer's needs.

"This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office."

A six-week consultation on the plans is now open, with customers invited to give their views before Friday, September 29.
