WARRINGTON Borough Council has 'promised' it will clamp down on rubbish being dumped at the back of Marbury Street in Victoria Park, according to ward councillors.

Maureen McLaughlin and Les Morgan, both Labour councillors for Latchford West, say the Town Hall has confirmed it will act over a long term fly-tipping issue.

Despite action having already been taken over the issue, including court proceedings against the landowner, residents say fly-tipping in the area has increased.

Clr McLaughlin said: "I am grateful because our request for an urgent clean-up was dealt with immediately.

"The council sent in a team to clear up the debris, fly-tipping and fouling that has blighted one end of this street, and was creating a potential public health risk.

"But we wanted a proper long term solution to this problem so we sat down with Andy Farrall (executive director for environment and regeneration), and we've hammered out a long term plan of action."

The plan will see council officers contact homeowners reminding them of their responsibility to dispose of waste properly.

Weekly monitoring of the area will also take place.

Clr Morgan said: "The problem is caused by a handful of thoughtless people.

"We are determined to crack down on this to improve the area for the majority of law-abiding residents who want to take pride in their homes and in their local area.

"As local councillors we will not stand by and let this happen in our area.

" We’re pleased that officers have taken our concerns seriously and are working with us to achieve improvements for the long-term.’
