GREEN-FINGERED residents armed with buckets and spades made their way to Victoria Park for a giveaway.
Warrington Borough Council's recycling team gave away free compost which had been created from the garden waste collection scheme run by the council.
Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, was on hand on Saturday morning to see the gardeners taking advantage of the offer.
He said: “We would like to thank everyone for their support for the garden waste service and since it began we have collected and composted over 100,000 tonnes of waste, which is fantastic."
Some gardeners also walked away with a free home compost bin for their garden.
The compost was supplied for free by Whitemoss the company that composts Warrington’s garden waste.
