THERE was plenty to celebrate at the end of term for Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Whitecross.

The Selby Street school picked up an Artsmark Silver accreditation and a Quality Mark for Primary School (PQM) for its high quality care in basic skills of literacy and numeracy.

Two PQM assessors spent the day at the school and they praised the work that has gone on to narrow the gap between boys and girls and pupils attitudes and behaviour towards school work.

A week later the school was given its Artsmark award from Arts Council England and recognised for its developing arts provision.

Head teacher Colleen Everett said: “Being presented with both of these awards is yet another great achievement for the whole Sacred Heart community.

“It is wonderful to see that our ongoing improvements and developments, alongside our determination to provide all of our children with a quality, fun and well-balanced education have been recognised as having a positive impact of provision, practice and performance.”
