MORE than 1,000 people turned out for the first Victoria Park Experience (VPX).

The event at the Knutsford Road park in Latchford is now in its seventh year and drawing bigger numbers with 1,598 young people and their families attending last week.

VPX runs every Tuesday throughout August and was first devised by Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit CSOs Tom Reid and Tony Spruce.

It was designed as a way to engage with young people in the area and reduce youth related anti-social behaviour.

CSO Tom Reid said: "Over the past seven years we have expanded the event into four family friendly activity days on the park. Last year was attended by close to 3,000 young people and their families and we were able to fund a volunteers level two FA coaching badge.

“It is totally free and open to people of all ages and abilities.

“We have activities aimed at younger people with free face painting, a bouncy castle, tots rugby, mini games and crafts.”

There is also Rampworx skate park, football and rugby coaching, dance, tennis, archery, spinning classes, siging, painting and drumming on offer.

VPX runs from 11am to 4pm every Tuesday in August.
