YOUNGSTERS at a Latchford school have played their part in helping to rejuvenate the graves of First World War soldiers.

Pupils from the horticulture group were invited by Sainsbury’s and Warrington Wolves to get involved in a project to tidy up the graves of 40 soldiers in Warrington Cemetery.

They dug out 10in of contaminated soil from the top of the grave site, added compost and topsoil and then planted bedding plants and a peace rose to improve the grave.

And they found out more about the history of the soldier’s grave they tended to – a Private John Bridge of the South Lancashire Regiment.
