THE emerald isle never felt closer for the Fairfield and Howley community as they dug deep with a St Patrick’s Day theme to help raise money for charity.
Residents put on their trainers and helped walk from the town to Dublin.
Over a 24 hour period they walked for almost 60 miles – covering the distance to Liverpool before taking an imaginary ferry to Dublin then walking the distance from the Dublin Docks to the Temple Bar.
But they did it all on a treadmill set up in the Ring O’Bells pub, on Church Street.
The walkers ranged from two-year-old Blake Flaherty to 80-year-old Jean Pownall The event raised more than £200 and the money will be shared between The Friends of St Elphin’s Park, St Rocco’s Hospice and the Mayor’s charities.
