THE first ever market will be taking place in Latchford on August 23.

Latchford Village Traders will be hosting the market, which according to the area's historical society is the first such event of its kind.

It will take place at the beginning of The Latch Ford Festival – a week-long affair that is being supported by The Latchford Big Local Partnership, as well as the traders.

It is hoped the market will prove to be a success and the beginning of a monthly event.

Traders have praised the partnership's programme manager Steve Wright for helping to deliver the market and for bringing about 'positive change' to the area.

"This is a really good example of how we can all work together and we are very proud to be part of the first market," he said.

"All of this is about bringing good things into our community so the residents can have a better experience.

"We want the community to engage and make use of what is on our doorstep and help get it back to being active and vibrant.

"But it is just about supporting each other by committing to hard work and dedication.

"We have also had improvements to things like the footpaths here."

Traders wanted to thank all businesses involved for their help and praised the council for providing permits, as well as official permission to stage the market.

Teresa Thomas, co-owner of Picturesq, which is one of the businesses involved in the traders group, added: "It will be great to have this in Latchford.

"But it could not have been possible without all of the hard work by everyone involved."
