A £229,000 donation has helped kick-start a new scheme to get the Bewsey and Dallam community fit.

LiveWire helped celebrate the launch of the new Bewsey and Dallam Active Zone project with lots of activities during a fun day on Dallam Playing Fields, on Longshaw Street, last month.

The programme has been launched to give residents easy access to a range of sporting events and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle.

It is part of the National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Activation fund.

Ben Williams, from Sport England, kicked off the fun day by presenting LiveWire’s managing director Jan Souness and Clr Pat Wright with a cheque for £229,676.

Ms Souness said: “LiveWire is incredibly excited to begin the Bewsey and Dallam Active Zone project. We have a dedicated team of professionals who will be setting up lots of activities for children and adults as well as new mums.

“I am very proud that LiveWire is part of this fantastic national scheme and hope to see an improvement on the amount of people participating in sport.”

Mike Diaper, Sport England director of community sport, added: “It’s great to be working with innovative projects like the Bewsey and Dallam Active Zone project to offer people the chance to get into sport in a way that best suits them.

“The investment being made through the Community Sport Activation Fund is making a real difference at a very local level.

“I’m particularly pleased that more than half the funding is going into projects in deprived areas, helping more people develop a lifelong sporting habit.”
