YOUNGSTERS at a Latchford school became superheroes when their team The Bolton Bikers were the stars of the show at a national competition.

The Bolton Bikers of Alderman Bolton Primary School, on Longdin Street, meet weekly and learn to disassemble, customise and rebuild bikes.

Built on team spirit, the group formed a portfolio to showcase their talents and this year they chose superheroes as their theme developing a Superman-styled bike and their version of the Batmobile.

They scooped two trophies at Grappenhall’s Warrington Wheel’s under 18s Bike show.

And after their success on home turf the year six team’s creations took to the road for the National Youthbike Competition held in Lincolnshire.

The designs and knowledge from four of the team wowed the judges and won four trophies at the weekend event.

They picked up the best fantasy three wheeled engineering and best portfolio. The best female mechanic went to Bolton Biker’s Melissa Brown, while Kaitlyn Banks received the young photographer award.

Year six teacher Liz Towler said: “We are so lucky to be part of this wonderful project. The young people on the team have been bursting with excitement about their bikes.

“They were able to develop their talents in art and design, maths, English, ICT and even photography. Above all it has boosted their confidence and we were proud to see the group explaining their work to the competition judges.

“I hope more schools, individuals and youth groups become aware of Warrington Wheels and National Youthbike and consider entering next year.”
