Council U-turn over extending speed limit

COUNCILLORS and residents of two Latchford streets are celebrating after changing road planners’ minds and getting lower speed limits.

Wash Lane and Thelwall Lane were originally left out of the scheme to bring in 20 mph limits on residential roads.

But the move left residents and Latchford councillors concerned as there had been previous accidents and near misses on the roads due to speeding cars.

But they have now been told planners have made a U-turn following after consultation with residents.

Clr Steve Wright (LAB – Latchford East) said: “It’s great news for the residents and we are looking into measures that can be brought in on Loushers Lane but it won’t be lowered there because it is a bus route.

“But all the roads which lead off from Loushers Lane will have the 20mph speed limits brought in to use on them.

“It’s a particular success as we did not think we would have much chance of changing the plans.

“The speed limits were a big issue for residents on those roads.”

The move comes as resurfacing of roads and pavements around Latchford village is completed.

Clr Wright added: “Residents have been saying it’s a great job and making a difference already,” he added.
