Village plans for a memorable Diamond Jubilee day

A BEACON, fountain, walk and street parties will all add up to a packed programme of events to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in Lymm.

Lymm Parish Council held a public meeting to help get ideas on how to celebrate the event this June.

And they have agreed a range of options to mark the occasion.

They will approach St Mary’s Church about hosting a beacon which will be lit simultaneously at venues across the country on June 4.

A new jubilee walk will be prepared at the Dingle while flowers will be planted red, white and blue for the month.

And a fountain could be added to the lower dam in the centre of the village.

Clr Sheila Woodyatt, (CON – Lymm), said: “There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm among people for what will be going on.

“We had a lot of interest at the public meeting and a lot of ideas put forward.”

The parish council is also looking to create a photographic record of the day in the village from dawn to dusk and possibly offering them as calendars or diaries.

Meanwhile the council will support street parties and is inviting residents to time their fireworks with the lighting of the beacon.

Ridgway Grundy Park will be getting a new oak tree from the Windsor Royal estate and parish councillors will erect a plaque.

And the new archway leading to the centre of the village close to Lymm Dam will have a crown added and be renamed the Jubilee Arch.
