A WOOD in Oughtrington has some new additions thanks to children in Lymm.

Members of the Lymm High School Ecology Club went to Spud Wood earlier this month to help plant 100 new trees.

Paul Heaton, from the ecology club at the Oughtrington Lane school, said: “It is really good for the children to have the opportunity to do some practical work in their community.

“They have really enjoyed planting the trees in Spud Wood.”

They were joined by volunteers from the Friends of Spud Wood (FoSW) group for the work, along with The Woodland Trust.

The students planted nearly 100 new fruiting and flowering trees.

These trees will increase the foraging opportunities in the wood. Crab Apples, Bird Cherry and Wild Cherry trees were among the new saplings that have been planted.

A spokesman for the trust said: “The Woodland Trust is really pleased that the local community have been finding new ways to get involved in Spud Wood.

“The top responses are that it is a lovely, peaceful and convenient place to enjoy.”

The wood allotments group continues its work in Spud Wood and has now set-up a Friends of Spud Wood Community Interest Company.
