AROUND 7,000 people and a little sunshine added up to a successful second Lymm Historic Transport Day.

The event, staged during the popular Lymm Festival, saw 5,000 paying visitors, 1,000 exhibitors, guests and traders and 1,000 who did not enter paid areas.

Event organiser Alan Williams said: “What a difference a little sunshine makes.

“2013 was year one of the event and while it was deemed a great success we always knew that good weather could take us up to a whole new level.

“There was something for everyone from the dedicated transport enthusiasts to families looking for an exciting and different day out that wouldn’t be trying to empty their pockets.

“We have been overwhelmed with hundreds of positive Facebook post and e-mail and calls.

“There is still stuff to learn where we can improve but we will be doing everything we can to ensure we don’t lose that family friendly, village-based feel to the event.”

Traders Carol and John Carter said: “We are buzzing with excitement today after a fantastic day yesterday where we traded at your event.

“We have traded at outside venues for more than 15 years and frankly your Lymm event was the nicest we have ever attended.”

Hundreds of people lined the centre of the village to watch the parade before events took place across the village last Sunday, June 29.
