MORE than 30 former Moore United FC players put on their boots and took to the pitch in honour of a club legend.

The match at Grange Sports and Social Club was organised to commemorate the second anniversary of club founder Billy Green's passing.

The event, which was named 'Billy Green Day', also raised more than £500 for the Alzheimer's Society – a cause close to the heart of Billy's family.

The match between Billy's Boys and Dot's Dynamos was played in 'great spirit' and turned out to be a tight encounter, with the score finishing 1-1.

Bucket collections took place during and after the match and the club is looking to make the day an annual event.

Billy's widow, Dot, who will turn 90 in February, watched on from the sidelines as players, including Warrington Town chairman Toby Macormac, battled for victory.
