Cheese and wine fundraising

A GROUP of friends are set to continue their fundraising efforts for Pancreatic Cancer UK by hosting a cheese and wine evening tonight.

Sharon Harris, Bridget Francis and Charlotte Comer organised a two-hour zumbathon at Bridgewater High School last month to raise funds after Sharon's mum sadly lost her battle against the illness in 2011.

During the evening, which starts at 7.30pm at Sharon’s Walton home, handbags, scarves and vintage clothes will be on offer.

Apps tips for college

A STOCKTON Heath mastermind behind a children's app has shared his tips to lucky Priestley College students.

Andy Jones, who launched Blast Off Bob earlier this year, was invited to the college, along with Manchesterbased digital company Igniso.

He said: “It was good to share my thoughts on how to develop a successful app and to hear what the students had to say about their ideas.

“They seem to have worked really hard and I hope they took something from their chats with me.”

First pint pulled

THE Deputy Mayor was in Stockton Heath to pull the first pint at the the refurbished Mulberry Tree Inn following its £385,000 renovation.

Cllr Geoff Settle and wife, Jean, joined general manager, Jennifer Taylor, to raise a glass to the Grappenhall Road pub's makeover following investment from Spirit Pub Company.

"My team and I were honoured to have Geoff and Jean join us for the opening of the new look Mulberry Tree," said Jennifer.

"The pub is a true lynchpin of the community and perfectly located for Warrington locals and visitors alike, so we are thrilled to be offering our regulars and new guest even better surroundings to socialise, enjoy a drink and eat freshly-prepared food."

Driving on for charity

The new lady captain of Warrington Golf Club in Appleton has a busy year of fundraising ahead.

Jean Warburton, will be hosting a number of events in aid of her chosen charities Assistance Dogs for the Disabled and Children with Autism.

A ladies charity dinner is organised for May 29, while a ladies charity golf day and coffee morning will be held on August 18, along with two mixed charity golf days on July 3 and July 27 which will be open to non-members.

A quiz night and a bridge drive have already taken place.

Anyone wishing to take part or support the planned fundraising events should contact Warrington Golf Club on 261775.

Parish council meeting

Appleton Parish Council will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday at the Parish Hall, on Dudlow Green Road.

Residents are welcome to attend the meeting which will commence at 7.30pm.

It will be the last one before the elections next month.
