AN annual walk through the village of Grappenhall launched in memory of a former resident chalks up its 10th event this month.

The walk, organised by Roy Kettle in memory of wife Susan who died in 2003 after battling breast cancer, has raised more than £25,000 since it started in 2006.

And it will return on Sunday, October 26 for the 10th anniversary.

Roy said: "No one ever thinks it is going to happen to them – but when it does and when it's all over and you have time to reflect on the past weeks, months and even years you ask yourself 'how did you get through it?'

"Sadly my wife and Martin's mum, Sue, didn't.

"But did she complain, did she let others feel sorry for her? No.

"When Sue was back and to, to hospital two or three times a week and when complications set in she knocked them back - this 'thing' is not going to beat me was her rebuff to all her problems.

"Myself and Martin now had a different life to get on with and that's what we've done.

"We've talked about Sue a lot and the laughter has still been there when we talk about some of the many fun times we all had.

"The gap in our lives will never be filled and by raising money we hope we can help other families to not have to go through what we have been through."

The walk is three miles around the village and the wider Grappenhall area with all the money raised going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Starting at 11am, everyone is welcome to join in.

Sponsor forms are available from roy.kettle1@ntlworld.com or call 262851. Or just turn up on the day and join in.
