Experts stage second session to help residents

RESIDENTS in Lymm can get advice on staying safe and secure at a session in the village later this month.

Police have teamed up with experts from Warrington Borough Council to host the event on June 30 from noon until 3pm.

Villagers can head down to the Youth and Community Centre on Bridgewater Street to find out more about what is happening in the area.

It follows the success of an event held earlier this year in Grappenhall and Thelwall.

Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This is the second in a series of events to be held across south Warrington which aim to encourage residents to take some simple steps to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime.”

Sgt Becky Stokes, from South Warrington’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are keen to reassure all residents that the police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them, and we are delighted to form this partnership with Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhood team to reach particularly our older and more isolated members of the community where ‘Fear of Crime’ levels are high.”

The team will be giving out window and shed locks, purse bells and fact sheets on avoiding scams. Locks and bells will be free to eligible residents and just a minimal charge to everyone else on a first come, first served basis.

Also there on the day will be Trading Standards, Home Watch, Cheshire Fire Service, Healthy Ageing Team, Wellbeing Team, Warrington Disability Partnership, Warrington Voluntary Action, and more.
