Host of success stories in Low Carbon Lymm’s Climate Week gongs

LYMM in Bloom, the village youth club and St Rocco’s were among the winners at a green awards in Lymm.

The Low Carbon Lymm 2014 Climate Week Awards at Lymm Youth Centre, on Bridgewater Street, were held for the second time.

They were part of a community event set up in a campaign organised by Low Carbon Lymm to help people reduce their energy bills.

The winners of the best small business prize was St Rocco’s.

Judges said the charity showed a ‘commitment to seek outlets for materials they cannot use rather than simply disposing to landfill waste’.

Lymm High School’s Ecology Club claimed the best educational contribution prize.

Judges said the club was a very positive example of how students can influence the wider community. The use of presentations across the school is an innovative way to communicate to students, staff and visitors, they heard.

Ben Selwood, who runs Lymm in Bloom, was given the prize for best individual contribution.

Judges said: “For the personal commitment and the way he has gone about his voluntary activities which have brought other members of the community together.

“Ben has been instrumental in leading the planting of seasonal flowers throughout the village.

“The North West in Bloom Award received by Lymm as a result of his leadership is worthy of mention.”

And Lymm Junior Youth Club was winner in the best group contribution category for under 18.
