Police offer advice

CHESHIRE Police and the council have teamed up to put on an advice session, in Appleton, offering tips to residents about staying safe and secure.

The session will take place next Thursday, March 19, at St Mary Magdalene's Church, on Dingleway.

It will provide information on how residents can avoid becoming a victim of crim and follows the recent spate of cycle theft and shed crime in parts of south Warrington.

Insp Sarah Heath, of South Warrington Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “"We are keen to reassure all residents that the police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them, and we are delighted to form this partnership with the council's neighbourhood team to reach particularly our older and more isolated members of the community where ‘Fear of Crime’ levels are high.”

Boxer impresses

AN aspiring Appleton boxer was the joint star of the show after stepping up for his first boxing bout on February 28

Joe Thackray, aged 23, performed in the amateur showdown at the Parr Hall after months of dedicated training at Marsh House Gym, in Padgate.

The three-round battle ended as a draw but it was honoured with the title of 'fight of the night' from judges.

Parking problems

PARKING problems in Stockton Heath were raised at last Monday's council budget meeting at the Town Hall.

The council's plan for funding in the town was thoroughly discussed through the course of the night, during which executive member for corporate resources and assignments, Cllr Russ Bowden, revealed his budget report.

One area of concern for Cllr Peter Walker (LD - Appleton) was the need to improve parking across the borough.

"People can't park anywhere in Stockton Heath," he said.

The councillor also supported the council's plans to pay all of its staff the living wage but admitted he needs 'to see more about it' before completely backing the plan.

Dance for charity

A GROUP of friends are set to combine music and fitness as they prepare to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK at Bridgewater High School.

Sharon Harris, Bridget Francis and Charlotte Corner are organising a Zumba-thon for later this month to raise money for the charity after Sharon's mum sadly lost her battle against the illness.

"My beautiful mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only a few weeks before she passed away," said Sharon.

"Sadly this seems to be case with many other people and my motivation is to help fund research so that others will not have to suffer in the same way."

The event will take place on Saturday, March 21, at the school's lower site, on Hall Drive, in Appleton.

Tickets are prices at £8 for the session, which will run from 1.45-3.45pm.
