CAMPAIGNERS are waiting to discover what the eventual outcome of Stockton Heath tip will be.

A four week public consultation on the future of community recycling centres closed on Monday.

The public forum was launched in the wake of a decision by Warrington Borough Council’s executive board to award a new contract which would mean the closure of the Sandy Lane centre and reduced hours in the other to centres.

But the Stockton Heath closure caused uproar among residents and councillors in the area.

Clr Celia Jordan (Stockton Heath - LD) said: “Several people I have spoken to said they have responded to the consultation.

“I think it’s been difficult with the consultation in August and there have been no meetings in that time and people are on holiday.

“They haven’t given proper time to consult.

“What we really want is another site south of the river, somewhere were all the people in Lymm, Appleton and Stockton Heath and the like can go because they are very willing to recycle without having to go through town.”

The council had announced plans to create new bring banks across the borough at sites like supermarkets where people can bring things like glass, paper and clothing.

But doubts from some still remain.

“Nothing has been said about collecting from them and whether that is environmentally friendly.

The Stockton Heath bring bank was a terrible mess until we complained to the council about it,” added Clr Jordan.
