SURGEONS at Spire Cheshire Hospital in Stretton are urging residents to think before going 'under the knife' for cosmetic surgery.

Following the turn of the year, experts believe an increasing number of people – both men and women – will be considering treatment.

Gerard Lambe, a surgeon at Spire Cheshire, which is based on Fir Tree Close, said patients must be completely satisfied with their decision before taking the next step.

He added: "Sometimes people need to discuss their options several times in order for both the patient and the surgeon to be confident that they have each understood what is wanted and how achievable the planned change is.

"Free mini-consultations give the consultant and patient the chance to discuss initial thoughts then further consultations can be held to go into finer details and to ensure a real understanding is established between the surgeon and patient."

The hospital has also revealed some of the procedures that have shown 'significant increases in demand' in recent years.

One of the most popular among residents is the face and neck lift.

This form of surgery focuses on reducing the 'loose look' of sagging skin around the neck and under the jaw line.

The procedure takes approximately two to three hours and requires a general anaesthetic, as well as an overnight stay in hospital.

Surgery on 'prominent ears' has also been on the rise.

Many of those who enquire do so after experiencing hair loss, which makes it harder for them 'to hide' their ears.

Mr Lambe uses a technique which ensures a head bandage is only necessary for the first few days after the operation.

Eyelid tucks, the one-stitch facelift, female and male breast reduction and tummy tucks were also on the list.
