THE refurbished bowling pavilion at Alexandra Park in Stockton Heath was officially unveiled on May 23.

Cllr Kate Hannon, the council's portfolio holder for leisure, community and culture, cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the site.

Plans to renovate the pavilion and make improvements to the park were approved at the council's development control committee in January.

Following approval, £200,000 capital funding was agreed at the full council meeting in March.

A new brick wall has been constructed at the park and a new room has been made available for use.

Cllr Laurence Murphy (LAB - Stockton Heath) has praised the development carried out to ensure the site remains popular among residents.

"I believe that the pavilion renovation is a fabulous facility for Stockton Heath and it will enhance the Green Flag status of the park," he said.

"The pavilion is a credit to the Friends of Alexandra Park, whose drive and determination secured a grant of £200,000 to finance further enhancements.

"The pavilion is just the first step in a programme of improvements that will see better play areas to benefit the wider community.

"The day it was opened was just fabulous - it was a wholly pleasant experience."

The improvements have been tipped to help make it a busy summer at the park.
