A FORMER councillor of 28 years has been chosen as the new chairman of Stockton Heath Parish Council.

Celia Jordan, who stepped down from her role as Liberal Democrat councillor for Stockton Heath this month, was unanimously voted into the position during last Tuesday's meeting at Sandy Lane Centre.

It comes after Helen Dutton's year in the role came to an end but she will remain on the council.

Shortly after the decision, Cllr Stephen Taylor (CON - Stockton Heath) was unanimously voted to remain as deputy chairman.

Mrs Jordan said: "I did not think that I would be the chairman but it is very nice to have a unanimous vote.

"I look forward to another busy year ahead - we want the best for Stockton Heath."

Mrs Dutton was praised by fellow parish councillors for staying 'at the forefront of issues' during her year as chairman.

"I have to say that I have enjoyed it and it has been a good year," she added.

Parish councillors urged residents to attend future meetings to discuss matters concerning them.

Meetings take place on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.
