PLANS for a fire station in Penketh have been submitted despite a mixed response from residents.

The new building, at the junction of Widnes Road and Marsh Lane, is part of Cheshire Fire proposals to improve response times in Halton, Warrington and Cheshire.

But while some residents said they were in favour of the plans, others have raised concerns about building on green belt land and traffic issues.

During a consultation exhibition throughout November, one resident said they were worried it would set a precedent for other developers building on green belt land near to Fiddler’s Ferry.

While others called for a speed camera to be put up.

Reader Freeborn John commented on our website: “Responding to every emergency calls will mean fire engines travelling at speed up Warrington Road, the only route into Warrington and a road which the authorities consider to be so dangerous for the rest of us that it is restricted to 30mph and is heavily policed with revenue earning speed traps.

“They can’t have it both ways, surely?”

Many also commented they were pleased the station was in a good location away from houses and they had emergency services closer to their home.

Residents are still welcome to comment on the application ahead of councillors making a final decision.
