A POPULAR community worker who lost her job in council cuts has found a happy ending after landing a new role.

Sue Emery was made redundant by Warrington Borough Council in August after a career spent working in the community.

She made a tearful goodbye to colleagues at Fearnhead Cross Community Centre, only to land a new 'dream job' a few weeks later.

Sue has been made community development manager at Fearnhead Cross, Insall Road, where she will help community groups to succeed.

"I'm hoping it's a job made in heaven for me, as I love working in the community," she said.

"It's about working with the groups that use the building, and attracting funding to develop the centre.

"I won't be managing the centre, but helping the groups based their to improve."

Community groups who worked with Sue had reacted angrily to the redundancy.

The council said it was part of budget cuts, and that there had been a 'number of job losses'.

Sue lost her job on the council's east neighbourhood board on August 22.

She started in the new role on Monday.

Funding was secured for the position by the management committee at Fearnhead Cross.

Grants were awarded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, and community groups.

It means there is an annual wage of £8,000 available for two years, for the development role.

Sue, who also runs the youth club on Thursday nights, will work 24 hours a week.

She is now looking forward to returning to community work.

"We had a lot to do before, but the joy of this is means I will be based at Fearnhead Cross, instead of galloping to other areas."
