Parish council election confirmed

STOCKTON Heath Parish Council has called for an election on May 7 following the resignation of Cllr Marilyn Timmins.

It will take place along with the Warrington Borough Council and General Election but will place 'no extra burden' on the parish council's funding in place for projects and initiatives.

"Money for elections is ring-fenced when the budget is set and cannot be used for other purposes," said chairman Helen Dutton.

"The vacancy will thus be filled via the democratic process rather than by co-option by the existing parish councillors."

Morrisons installs contactless payment system

A CONTACTLESS payment technology system has been installed at Morrisons, on Greenalls Avenue, to make shopping trips quicker and easier for the town’s customers.

Each till and self-service point in the supermarket have been upgraded to feature the new payment reader which will allow payments of up to £20 to be paid for by tapping a bank card against the reader pad.

"Contactless payment is simple and convenient to use - it is another way in which we are trying to make shopping trips faster and easier for Warrington’s customers," said general manager of the store, Les Williams.

It has been estimated that the payment method will save each customer 10 seconds when paying for their shopping.

Further improvements planned by the store include the extension of opening hours as well as the refining of toilet and baby change facilities.

Firefighters to put on charity car wash

FIREFIGHTERS from Stockton Heath Fire Station are rolling up their sleeves to raise money in a charity car wash.

All proceeds from the event at the station, on Ackers Road, will go to the Fire Fighters Charity and will take place on March 28 from 10am to 2pm.

"We would really appreciate motorists bringing their cars along to have them washed in return for a donation," said Peter Shields, road safety manager, who is organising the event.

Chairman of the Fire Fighters Charity and deputy chief fire officer, Mark Cashin, added: “The charity car wash is a great way to not only increase awareness of road safety but also to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity which has provided assistance to serving and retired firefighters for more than 60 years."
