Facebook frenzy

SOCIAL media is being utilised by Appleton band The Black Circles to help interact with fans over the course of the year.

The newly-turned duo of Sam Bratley, aged 22, and Martin Saunders, aged 23, admit performing is still the number one priority but say other avenues can be used.

"We are using Facebook quite a bit to let people know what we are doing and to give ticket details," said Sam.

"But the best way to have people take notice is to pack out venues every time that you perform - nothing can beat that."

Council questionnaire concerns

AN Appleton councillor has criticised a questionnaire concerning councillors' workloads at a Town Hall meeting.

Cllr Brian Axcell (LD - Appleton) admitted he could not fill in the survey, which was put forward by council chiefs, to find out more about councillors' day to day work.

He brought up the issue at this month's extraordinary council meeting and was backed by his party.

“The time allowed for the survey was ludicrously short and the results are meaningless," he said.

Councillor condemns vandals

A STOCKTON Heath parish councillor has condemned the actions of heartless vandals who uprooted a memorial bench at Ackers Pit twice.

The bench, in memory of Fred Tyreman, who died aged 88, was ruthlessly dislodged on January 16, and then again the following week.

Cllr Tudor Pole (Lumb Brook ward), spoke of his disappointment after the incident and called on the community to be on high alert.

"It is a terrible thing to happen - hopefully those that have done it will be caught," he said.

Rugby kit pride

A MOORE rugby union youth team is following in the footsteps of the first team after being provided with a new kit.

Moore Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) is to receive the threads by sponsors Knitwire.

Knitwire’s sales and engineering manager, Tim Forber, said: “This is a great opportunity to support the local youth teams, giving them something to be passionate about.

"I’m sure that they will feel a sense of pride wearing their own kit, which is similar to the Moore RUFC first team kit.”

Fan goes toe-to-toe with Hatton

A FORMER Bridgewater High School pupil squared up to Ricky Hatton for a meet and greet after seeing him at a Tenerife airport.

But it was all smiles for Chris Slater and the boxer after Hatton was willingly agreed to have a picture taken with the 22-year-old former Appleton resident, now living in the town centre.

"He was really nice and just said a couple of words before he let me have a picture," said Chris.

Following his return to the town after the island visit to see family, Chris admits it is a moment that will stick with him for years to come.

He added: "It was good of him to take the time out to let me do that and I will remember it."
