FOUR community spirited Rixton residents have been recognised at an awards ceremony.

Charity Hamilton Davies Trust celebrated its 10 year anniversary by recognising the stars in the communities it supports.

Peter Higson was commended for his work with Friends of Hollinfare Cemetery and the Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Plan Group.

Colette Fairfax’s award was for making a difference through her contributions to the village pre-school, Hollins Green Scout Centre, St Helen’s School, the Community Book Exchange and Parish Plan Group.

Harold Bate was praised for dedicating 46 years to Rixton's Community Hall and for supporting Rixton Tennis Club and Hollins Green Indoor Bowling section.

Sheila Breese also picked up an accolade on behalf of the 40 Friends of Hollinfare Cemetery volunteers who have helped transform the site into a green space.

Pete Higson, chairman of the Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Plan Group, said: "My award came completely out of the blue and I was sincerely humbled, but highly honoured to be presented with it.

"I get my enthusiasm, passion and drive from living around and working with all the friends and volunteers, to whom I would like to say a big thank you and feel very proud of them all.

I owe it to them that I received this award."

Community heroes in Irlam and Cadishead were also recognised by the Hamilton Davies Trust.
