IT may be six months away but one Penketh family’s attention has already turned to Christmas.

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School pupil Rebekah Stocks has been getting into the festive spirit after her Christmas card design was picked out of hundreds of entries to win a national competition.

The card will be in Home Bargains stores this November and December with cash raised going towards Alder Hey.

Proud mum Rachel, of Ainsdale Close, said: “She absolutely adores art so it didn’t matter to hear she was drawing something for Christmas in January.

“We sent it off together and she mentioned it a couple of times wondering whether she had won.

“She’s always drawing and painting so it’s lovely she’s done something she has been recognised for.

“A family friend works at the school and said she was really shocked when she found out and she has been really excited ever since.

“She says her friends are jealous but they’re all proud of her as is the whole family.

“Alder Hey have been brilliant and said they were really pleased with the design and it’s one of the best they have had and have invited her for a tour of the new hospital.”

Rebekah is still planning on being a wedding dress designer when she grows up.
