A GREAT Sankey mum has had her life transformed thanks to a four-legged friend.

Kerry Singleton was registered blind after being diagnosed with degenerative condition retinitis pigmentosa at the age of 21, resulting in tunnel vision and night blindness.

It meant the 29-year-old’s driving licence was revoked and the mum to Abi-Lou, aged six, and James, aged four, increasingly found herself staying at home and unable to take her children to school.

Kerry added: “I felt like someone else was bringing my children up.

“I couldn’t speak to the teachers and I didn’t get to hear about the school day as they had already told the story and didn’t want to tell me again.”

She eventually turned to Guide Dogs for help and thanks to the support of the charity overcame her fear of dogs to be paired with Harley just before Christmas.

In their short time together, Harley has already had a real impact on Kerry’s life including trips to the supermarket, cinema and most importantly taking the children to school with Kerry.

She added: “I feel like the old Kerry is back. People told me that we would have a magical bond and I didn’t really believe them but I have certainly been proven wrong.

“It’s amazing that I don’t have to ring anyone to come to help.

“I feel like a proper mum.”
