RESIDENTS hope a long-running parking row can be solved after a political dispute was settled.

Poulton with Fearnhead Parish Council has agreed to remove an objection against Harpers Road becoming access only.

As revealed in the Warrington Guardian, Longbarn Residents’ Association (LRA) had lobbied Warrington Borough Council to enforce the restriction.

They say employees from the nearby National Crime Agency building use Burnet Close and Blackburne Close, both off Harpers Road, to park, making access difficult.

The Town Hall had agreed to make Harpers Road access only, meaning it can only be used regularly by people who live there.

However, the parish council objected on the basis it had not been consulted over the decision, sidelining any road rules being put into place.

At a meeting at Fearnhead Cross Community Centre last week, members of the LRA attended to voice concerns over the objection.

The parish council agreed to withdraw opposition to the changes as a result. Previously councillors had said it received an apology from the borough council over the lack of consultation.

Following the meeting, Geoff Orange, chairman of LRA, said: “This was a good night for Longbarn Residents' Association.

“A lot of hard work has taken place to reach this point and residents can be proud of their achievements.

“We look forward to our elected representatives seeking approval by the borough council in April.”

A decision on whether to make Harpers Road access only is set to be made at a Town Hall meeting of the traffic committee on April 8.

Warrington Borough Council is expected to support residents.
