MOTORISTS turned out in force for the latest charity car wash put on by Stockton Heath firefighters.

The crew at the station, on Ackers Road, praised the community for showing their support during the event, which raised raised £664 for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Organiser and watch manager Dave Rutter said: "Firefighters and helpers with their buckets and sponges raised money for this worthy cause at the station.

"We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us raise almost £665, and, more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to give out vital road safety advice."

Deputy chief fire officer Mark Cashin added: "It is testament to the support we have from the public when events such as this show how generous people can be.

"It costs over £9 million every year to keep The Fire Fighters Charity running and, with no Government funding, it is completely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community."
