A MULTI-AGENCY commitment to tackle speeding close to an Appleton school is set to help ease safety concerns from parents.

Traffic monitoring 'strips' will be placed on the road just yards from Broomfields Junior School, on Bridge Lane, before the end of the year to help the council complete its investigations.

The strips will help the authority find out how many vehicles are passing, and speeding in, the 20mph-restricted area on a daily basis.

Parents have raised their concerns with PCSO Dave Mahon, who is co-operating with the council's traffic management team and lollipop man Steve Allsopp, who is based on Bridge Lane, to help bring about a solution.

"Peak times like in the morning and at the end of the school day do seem to be an issue – it is just about making it as safe as we possibly can," said PCSO Mahon.

"The strips will help the council carry out an assessment and then we can determine the next steps.

"We will constantly be monitoring it to make it an extremely safe place – this is a multi-agency approach.

"Parents have been speaking to me about the speeding as they are concerned about the safety of their children.

"It does get very busy because of all of the schools which are close by but we will be working hard to tackle speeding."

A council spokesman said the authority will carry out a road traffic survey and if 'criteria is met' it will go through the 'proper channels' to combat any speeding issues.
