ROAD resurfacing works in Stockton Heath are fast approaching completion.

The council has confirmed work on London Road and Ellesmere Road are now complete, the latter being two weeks ahead of schedule.

The cost of the scheme, which has also benefitted Sandy Lane, East Avenue, Arley Avenue and Grappenhall Road, is £762,000 but Stockton Heath parish councillor Peter Walker believes the investment was crucial.

"There has been a lot of work in the village but we are very pleased – it is a great improvement," he said.

"There has been disruption but it has been handled very well and I think people will see that it has all been worth it.

"It should really help motorists and has been something we have been keen to have done in the area."

But despite the improvements the Appleton borough councillor hopes even more roads are improved and is calling for action to revamp footpaths in the area.

"We would like to see more roads in Stockton Heath and Appleton improved but we know the council does not have an unlimited budget," he added.

"The other priority that must be tackled is the state of some of our footpaths.

"The budget for that is small but we will be pushing the matter – our pedestrians require improvements just as much as our motorists."

Wards in urgent need of work will receive a proportion of the council's £40 million investment in the next three to five years in a move tipped to drastically develop roads in the town.
