A VOLUNTARY initiative giving residents the chance to 'give' and 'receive' time from each other has been launched at St Thomas' Church in Stockton Heath.

Time 4 Sharing, which was founded by Marsha Roberts and Joanna David-Goddard, has been created to strengthen the social bonds in the community.

The time bank allows residents to exchange favours, trade talents and swap skills on a flexible basis.

Those 'withdrawing' and 'depositing' time can choose to do so through activities including cooking, giving lifts, litter picking and accompanying people to an appointment.

Members involved can build up 'credits' and take out the time when they need something in return.

Mayor Cllr Geoff Settle and Warrington South MP David Mowat were at the launch at the church, on London Road, on June 26.

The scheme is supported by Warrington Voluntary Action, which has also helped establish time banks in Orford and Birchwood.

Time bank development officer Philip Blocksidge said: "Time banks are the fastest growing way in the UK to promote community skill exchanges that strengthen neighbourhoods and bring people together."

Marsha and Joanna are currently recruiting new members and urging anyone wishing to offer their support to get involved.
