A YOUNG tenor horn player has been accepted as a member of The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Jennie Worrall, of Howson Road, Orford, will spend her Easter holidays on a course in Harrogate as part of the band which was set up in1952 to give exceptionally gifted young brass instrument players the opportunity to perform and receive the highest quality of teaching.

The 15-year-old will take part in the course between March 28 and April 4 and will also perform in two concerts at University of Salford on April 3 and Morley Town Hall on April 4.

Jennie, who attends Thomas Boteler High School, said: "I was at school when I found out I had been accepted, I was so shocked I burst into tears because I was so happy.

"I didn't think I had got in because it had been so long since I auditioned so I broke down with joy. I am proud of myself for doing something good.

"Everybody is really proud of me because they know I have been working hard."

Jennie has only been playing the tenor horn for a year but played the cornet before that and has been practicing music for about eight years and would like to one day teach music.

"I want to study music psychology at university and would like to teach one day, whether it is brass or at a school I won't mind, I just want to use it now I have worked so hard," she said.

"I can't wait to go and be taught by some of the best. I have never performed in front of that many people either."

Jennie also plays for Golborne Brass Band but this will be the first time she has performed in this way.
