CYCLISTS will be hitting the streets all in aid of a good cause for the Cheshire Plains and Peaks Sportive.

The event, now in its sixth year is designed to help raise money for St Rocco's Hospice.

And this Sunday cyclists will be lining up at Broomfields Leisure Centre in Appleton for the challenging ride for keen riders.

The event offers two routes of 60 miles and 100 miles, both starting off at the Broomfields Road centre.

The 60 mile route takes riders through the rolling Cheshire countryside on minor roads, with the main challenge being a climb up and over Alderley Edge before looping back to Appleton.

Meanwhile the 100 mile route initially follows the same route but leaves the refreshment stop at Alderley Edge and takes the riders onto the more challenging climbs of the Peak District, up to Sparrowpit and returning through Buxton, the Goyt Valley and over the Cat and Fiddle before rejoining the 60 mile route.

The event will help fund the work the hospice does in caring for people with life limiting conditions and offering holistic help to those tackling diseases like cancer.

Both cycles get under way at 9am.

It costs £25 to enter and to sign up visit britishcycling.org.uk.
