LIVING on £1 a day is the challenge facing an Appleton woman who is preparing to volunteer in Bangledesh.

When Anne Thompson, was 18 she took a gap year out in India and spent her time volunteering at a psychiatric hospital in Calcutta.

It left her with a passion for charity work which has led to her signing up to help out on a trip with Y-Care International, which is a Government funded scheme.

Seven years later the 25-yearold children’s social worker will go to Bangladesh on October 6 for 10 weeks where she will work with families and youth groups to educate them on how to prevent the risks they face in natural disasters.

To help out even more Anne is looking to raise a minimum of £800 for charity beforehand.

Anne, of Warren Drive, seeks to raise awareness of the difficulties which some of the poorest communities in the world face. To kick it all off she is participating in the ‘live below the line challenge’ which consists of living off £1 worth of food per day for five days.

She said: “I was in the supermarket a couple of days ago and when I started to add the prices of food up, well that’s when I realised this is going to be tough. This is without doubt the toughest challenge I have tackled so far.”

After training for five weeks Anne also has plans to run the English Half Marathon in Warrington on September 21.
