20 cub scouts in Thelwall camped the Bear Grylls way over two weekends

CUB Scouts in Thelwall camped out the Bear Grylls way over two weekends.

Around 20 youngsters attended each weekend at the Scout headquarters in the village, building shelters in the wooded area, collecting firewood and lighting fires with flint strikers.

They had to cook their own food during the day on Army-style Hexamine stoves in mess tins and they also made lanterns and swapped spooky stories.

The group has just marked its sixth consecutive award for growth but there is still space for new members and currently no waiting list.

Cubs, for youngsters aged eight to 10-and-a-half, meet on Tuesdays between 6.30pm and 8pm and Friday from 6pm to 7.30pm, Beavers, for six to eight-year-olds, meet on Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 7.30pm and Scouts, aged between 10-and-a-half and 14, meet on Fridays between 7.45pm and 9.15pm.
