A WIDESPREAD review of parking in Lymm will take place within the next financial year, the council has confirmed.

The long awaited survey has been inked in for 2015/16, although there is no timetable for when any possible solutions will be put forward.

Cllr Ian Marks (LD - Lymm) said: "Parking is a huge problem and the solutions are not obvious.

"It was the right thing to do to put experimental double yellow lines on Brookfield Road.

"Follow-up surveys will take place in February to confirm if they should be permanent.

"The council is correct in saying the issue must be looked at as a whole because just painting more yellow lines pushes the problem elsewhere.

"There must be a balance between the needs of residents and of businesses."

He said council officers must take into account both long term and short term parking on the village's car parks on Pepper Street and Davies Way.

And he said the needs to be an examination of how those car parks are managed.

One possible solution has been to open up some land at Sow Brook for parking.

This could be for people walking on the Trans Pennine Trail, car-sharers who at the moment use the main car parks all day to head to work, and for those working in the village who are prepared to walk 10 minutes.

Cllr Marks added: "The land is owned by United Utilities and they are not against land near the playing field being used for parking.

"The parish council is supporting this idea and we are in discussion with United Utilities and Warrington Borough Council about the practicalities.”

There is no date confirmed as yet for when the survey will take place.
