TURN back time on Saturday by visiting Lymm’s annual Dickensian festival.

The village will come alive with festive fun all day as part of the Victorian event.

And the undoubted highlight will be the parade through Lymm, which leaves the Lymm Hotel on Whitbarrow Road from 1.30pm.

It will be led by town crier Peter Powell and include a traction engine, vintage cars, bands, schools, who dress in a variety of colourful costumes, and entertainers.

Children from the four schools in the village, Ravenbank, Cherry Tree, Oughtrington and Statham as well as nearby Little Bollington, will take part as will the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Ted Finnegan and Mayoress Mavis.

And look out for Father Christmas.

Entertainment will also be provided by Warrington Brass Band, morris dancers, clowns, vintage cars and horse drawn carriages.

Meanwhile visitors will be able to take in the atmosphere in the village throughout the day, with most activities open between 11am and 5pm.

There will be stalls and fairs in the village centre, Village Hall, on Pepper Street, Maple Lodge, Youth Club on Bridgewater Street and surrounding locations as well as an exhibition of paintings and hand-painted cards by local artists in the village hall.

Many of the shops also get involved with staff dressing up.

After the stalls and fairs have closed, an illuminated flotilla of boats will make its way down the Bridgewater Canal from 4.45pm.

Organised by Lymm Cruising Club, it will see a series of lit up boats travel through the village.

This event is weather dependant however.

Saturday's event takes place almost 30 years since the debut of Lymm Dickensian in 1985.
