VOLUNTERS at Lymm Youth Club have scooped top awards at a ceremony.

The team from the club, based on Bridgewater Street in the centre of the village, were rewarded for their work at a ceremony earlier this month.

Four members of the team, George Hussey, Matt Taylor, Lauren O'Shea and Joe Downing, were given certificated by the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Ted Finnegan at the nights, held at the Orford Jubilee Hub.

Mr Hussey said: "I do this work because I enjoy it.

"I love working with the kids and it makes me feel like I am giving something back to the community. I never expected an award but I was very proud to accept it."

Lymm parish councillor and leader of the junior youth club, Cllr Su Williams was delighted when she heard that Warrington Voluntary Action were holding the evening.

She added it was vital that volunteers within the Lymm community were recognised for their work.

She said: "We do rely so much on volunteers to help us make all our activities happen and these people are normally the unsung heroes so it was great that Warrington gave us the opportunity to nominate them for awards for their hard work."
