VOLUNTEERS looking to create a new heritage centre in Lymm are on the lookout for a premises.

Plans have been launched for a building in Lymm not only to give information about the village, but also provide an insight into its past.

A survey asking for views on the plans was completed by 217 people, 90 per cent of whom said it would be 'really useful or even essential'.

Two people felt it would be of no benefit.

Parish Clr Su Williams said: "From the point of view of an information centre the consensus view seemed to be that we are blessed with a vibrant village but that getting information isn't always easy.

"The noticeboards were felt by some to be inadequate or hard to read.

"The idea that visitors could easily pick up a map, a walk pack, a heritage trail leaflet and other information in the village was seen as a positive especially on the weekend.

"The 'heritage' part of the package was equally supported."

The next step will be a public consultation to be held earlier in the new year to canvas wider views on the future.

Clr Williams added: "We are still on the lookout for suitable premises.

"To some extent we need to be prepared to 'cut our cloth' and use whatever space we can get in the most appropriate way at least as a first step."

A website has already been set up, collecting plenty of evidence about Lymm and its history.
