Mum is honoured after being nominated by captain for commendation

A FORMER Lymm High school student has been rewarded for her excellence working for the Royal Navy.

Lieutenant Sarah Royston was presented with the Flotilla Commendation, having been nominated by the captain of Plymouth-based frigate HMS Somerset Commander Mike Smith. Sarah, who works at Clyde Naval Base, Scotland, as the executive assistant to Superintendent Fleet Maintenance, said she was touched to be nominated.

She added: “I worked closely with the team onboard and had built up a strong working relationship with them.

“It is a great feeling knowing that you have made a difference.’’ Mother to William, aged two, she is married to Jamie, a submarine warfare officer.

Sarah, whose parents still live in Warrington, was educated at Lymm High School and Glasgow University.

She joined the Royal Navy in 2005 after completing a mechanical engineering degree to serve on several ships throughout basic training including HMS Ocean, HMS Campbeltown and HMS Northumberland. She joined HMS Raleigh as a training officer in 2010 where she qualified as a teacher.

Her citation said she sets the finest example of waterfront support with her professionalism and commitment – effectively becoming an extra member of the crew.
